What is Unclaimed Property?

Unclaimed property is generally defined as intangible personal property that is held or owed in the ordinary course of a business and the apparent owner has failed to claim the property after a specified period of time. When the owner cannot be located, States’ Unclaimed Property Laws require companies to report the personal property to the state of owner’s last known address or, if there is no last known address, to the company’s state of incorporation.
