Connecticut Filing Deadline Changed to March 28, 2013
Blog post by Moyer & Osibodu
Please be aware that the state of Connecticut has changed its 2013 unclaimed property filing deadline to March 28. As a result of the original filing deadline of March 31 falling on a Sunday and March 29 falling on a state holiday, the filing deadline was changed to March 28. However, the reports must be received at the state by March 28 and not postmarked by March 28.
The change in filing deadline was necessary in order to comply with the Connecticut General Statues that states “holder reports shall be delivered and paid within 90 days after the presumption of abandonment.”
In addition, please remember that electronic filings must be submitted in the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) format and also note that some of the reporting software does not automatically transmit the Holder’s report once the data is uploaded into the system. If the Holder reports are submitted on a CD ROM, please remember to email the password to cathy.kristof@ct.gov , along with the company name, tax ID and amount of money paid.
